Christian Cooper, who clashed with Amy Cooper over Memorial Day weekend because her pooch was running loose in Central Park, is hosting a virtual science field trip for the PBS series NOVA.
The field trip, live streamed at 2 p.m. Tuesday on NOVA’s on NOVA’s YouTube and Facebook channels, will include a discussion and Q&A session with Cooper, who is a board member of the New York City Audubon.
Cooper will give tips for bird-watching and talk about his efforts of “making birding more inclusive for people of color and the LGBTQ community,” NOVA said in a news release.
Cooper’s exchange with Amy Cooper morphed into an example of racism when he videotaped her calling the NYPD to report that he threatened her. Cooper had asked her to leash her dog.
Since the clash, Cooper has tried to highlight the “racial profiling that many Black birders experience in outdoor spaces,” NOVA said.
Cooper also took ABC’s “Good Morning America” on a Central Park bird-watching excursion and successfully lobbied for better enforcement of enforcing dog regulations in Central Park, including the leash requirement.
