At the Japanese box office, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train has brought in 27,512,438,050 yen (US$264,816,846), which makes it the second-highest-grossing film of all time in the region, beating out Titanic for the second-place spot. Demon Slayer now only has Spirited Away in its sights and the Studio Ghibli film's huge 30.80 billion yen (US$296.4 million) box office gross. In the worldwide box office chart for 2020, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train is now the highest-grossing animated film of the year based on the Japanese box office alone, beating out China's Jiang Ziya. It is currently 6th at the worldwide box office for 2020 behind Sonic the Hedgehog.

For ticket sales, Demon Slayer broke the 20 million mark, selling 20,532,177 tickets since it opened in Japan on October 16. The film is the 3rd most-watched film in Japan, behind Spirited Away and Tokyo Olympiad, and the 7th most-watched anime film in cinemas around the world, taking over Pokemon: The Movie 2000, and behind Howl's Moving Castle.
