The 44th Japan Academy Awards previously revealed the nominees for the Best Animation of the Year award last month, putting Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train among the ranks of Violet Evergarden the Movie, Stand By Me Doraemon 2, Josee, The Tiger and the Fish, and Poupelle of Chimney Town. While we’ll have to wait until the ceremony on March 19 to find out which film won, Demon Slayer is already the proud recipient of one of this year’s honors.

As revealed during the Ninety-nine hosted Thursday edition of radio program All Night Nippon, Mugen Train has been given the Topic Award, which is the only award selected by general movie fans out of all the categories of the Japan Academy Awards. The award had All Night Nippon listeners voting to determine the works and actors who are considered to be the most talked about of the year, and a total of 133,456 votes were cast in the process.

On the actor side, Shun Oguri was awarded with the honor for his role as newspaper reported Eiji Akutsu in Nobuhiro Doi’s The Voice of Sin film.

The ceremony will air on Nippon Broadcasting System, and a Japan Academy Prize special will include interviews with winners of the Topic Award.
