During the Demon Slayer Matsuri Online -Anime 2nd Anniversary Festival- live stream tonight on AbemaTV, it was revealed that the next season of the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba TV anime will be premiering in 2021, with the staff and cast from the first season and film returning.

 

The next season will continue to adapt the manga series by Koyoharu Gotouge. A key visual was released for the upcoming TV anime, alongside a currently geo-locked trailer. The arc follows on from the Mugen Train anime film and is set in the Yoshiwara red-light district.

Alongside the announcement, the live stream took us around to different events and attractions that would have shown off during the event, had it happened. Including key visuals, illustrations from the TV anime series and film, original key animation of the hinokami scene from the 19th episode, and more. A key visual for the live stream was released on the Demon Slayer Twitter account, with the gang looking very snappy in their Taisho-era outfits.

Over 1.5 million people were watching the announcement on Abema, just showing how popular Demon Slayer continues to be.

 

The first season of the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba TV anime aired between April 2019 and September 2019 and become a cultural phenomenon. The sequel anime film, Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train opened in Japanese cinemas on October 16 and had the best opening weekend in Japanese cinema history, becoming the highest-grossing film in Japanese theaters ever.

 

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 2 will again be directed by Haruo Sotozaki, with character designs from Akira Matsushima, and produced at Ufotable. The series is scheduled to premiere sometime in 2021.
