$tupid Young’s breakout hit, “Mando” (ft. Mozzy), just went certified gold.

The paupa-produced track was released in 2017, off $tupid Young’s 2018 album, One of One, which also included features from MBNel, Lil Durk, Benny, Philthy Rich, Skeme, AD, KBGOCRAZY, and WHATUPRG. The music video has since been viewed on YouTube more than 52 million times.

The Cambodian-American rapper took to Twitter to share the news, tweeting: “First gold plaque!!! FIRST CAMBODIAN IN THE US TO GET A PLAQUE!” Fellow Asian American rappers DUMBFOUNDEAD and Jay Park sent their congratulations and retweeted the news, respectively.

According to GENIUS.com, the track title is a contraction for “mandatory.” On “Mando,” $tupid Young laid out the rules in the streets and raps about how it claimed his friend. “My brother Dirt died for a lean bottle / In these cold streets where we don’t got no role models.”

Born Alex Pham, $tupid Young began to rap in 2011 and dropped his first album in 2017. He has since released six more albums, with two in 2021 alone: Asian Brown Unity in February and No Help on November 5.
