The Airbus A319 was carrying 43 passengers from Palm Beach, Florida, to LaGuardia Airport when it was diverted to JFK on Monday after reporting a problem with its navigation system, according to WABC.
It landed safely with its nose bent out of shape by a bird just before 7 p.m.
“Delta flight 1076 operating from West Palm Beach to New York-LaGuardia diverted to New York-JFK after encountering a bird,” Delta said in a statement.
“The flight landed safely and without incident, and maintenance is evaluating the aircraft.”
Airliners’ nose cones also are known as radomes, which protect radar equipment.
The FAA is investigating the midair incident.
