Mayor Bill de Blasio on Tuesday announced a deal with the City Council to approve an $88.1 billion city budget that cuts $1 billion in funding from the NYPD.

“The vote is going on later today,” de Blasio said in his daily briefing from City Hall.

“It’s been a challenging but very productive process.”

The cuts to the police budget include cancelling the “upcoming recruit class in July” and “major reductions in overtime expenditures,” he said.

The money, about half of which will come from the capital budget, including scrapping plans for a new 116th Precinct station house in Rockaway, will be shifted in part to programs for “young people,” especially those living in public housing projects, de Blasio said.
