#De Blasio needs to move faster, act more aggressively to get New Yorkers vaxxed

On Wednesday, Mayor Bill de Blasio acknowledged the ugly truth that New York City’s vaccination rates are lagging. He needs to go all-out to turn them around.

The Post found that the number of New Yorkers seeking shots has dropped significantly in recent weeks, even though 45 percent of adult city residents still need a shot.

De Blasio promised (vaguely) to get on it with new incentives to get jabbed: “We’re nailing down the final details, but you’re going to be seeing a lot more. We know there’s a lot of places where we could create really exciting opportunities.”

De Blasio & Co. are working with sports teams and other venues to come up with deals like the one City Hall arranged with the Museum of Natural History — where you can get jabbed beneath the famed blue whale and score free tickets for museum entry, too. Good, but get more creative.

Consider the NYPD, whose members seem to be part of the problem.

Thirty-five percent of police officers and professional support staff are fully vaccinated, the NYPD said Tuesday, including roughly a third of cops who have already had the bug. But data obtained by The Washington Post show that just 39 percent of NYPD cops have gotten at least one shot — significantly less than the 55 percent of city residents who’ve done so.

What to do? Well, apparently cops aren’t getting jabbed because the department isn’t offering them the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine, their preference. So offer it to them!

As for vax-hesitant communities: Work the churches, mosques and temples. Persuade a preacher to offer up a “Get vaxxed” sermon and have the shots ready for the congregation after services.

Be flexible, be creative, be aggressive. Get it done.
