#David Harbour shocked by Madonna calling him sexy before ‘creepy’ audition

“David Harbour shocked by Madonna calling him sexy before ‘creepy’ audition”

Seems like Madonna was crazy for David Harbour.

The Queen of Pop, 64, was allegedly so taken by the “Stranger Things” star, 47, that she invited him to secretly audition for her 2011 film “W.E.”

“It was a crazy thing. It was a real cloak-and-dagger type of experience,” Harbour recalled Wednesday on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

The “Material Girl” singer helmed the historical drama, which follows two women — Edward VIII’s wife, Wallis Simpson, and present-day New Yorker Wally Winthrop, who becomes obsessed with the couple’s relationship.

“W.E.” starred Abbie Cornish, James D’Arcy, Andrea Riseborough, Oscar Isaac and Richard Coyle. Harbour played Ernest Simpson, who was married to Wallis when she got involved with the royal.

“I got a call from a casting director that I knew very well saying they’re putting together a top secret movie read-through, but you just have to show up at the St. Regis and go in this room and all will be revealed,” Harbour said. “And I was like, ‘This is really weird and creepy.’”

He said he was told the director — whose name was not disclosed at the time — had seen him in 2008’s “Revolutionary Road.”

“You have a sex scene in it, and ‘they’ thought you were sexy,” Harbour claimed the casting director told him.

“So all weekend, I was literally thinking about Ridley Scott and Martin Scorsese,” he quipped.

“I show up at the St. Regis and I get in the room, and there’s a bunch of other New York actors there and in walks Madonna, who’s directing this movie. The first thing that flooded over me, I was like, ‘Wow, Madonna thinks I’m sexy.’”

The Post reached out to reps for Madonna, who directed, co-wrote and produced “W.E.”

Harbour said it was a “truly harrowing, exciting experience” because of his lifelong crush on the music icon.

He said he first saw her in her “Open Your Heart” music video in 1986. “I was 11 years old when I saw that video, and so there I am, in this boardroom of the St. Regis, and it all comes flooding back,” he said. “And I’m there with a bowler cap just like, ‘I’m going to run off with you into the distance.’”

Unfortunately, “W.E.” only grossed $2 million at the box office. Harbour’s new movie, “Violent Night,” is expected to fare better.

He admitted that while Madonna “is a genius in many realms,” the project was “not a terrific movie.”

“But there were moments!” the “Pan Am” star stated. “There were dance sequences in the film — of course — they were done by her choreographer. But I remember she’d come in before we started shooting and go like, ‘No. This is terrible.’ And she’d redo the whole thing, and she was like magic when she got in her dance world and stuff. She was incredible. I mean, she’s a genius.”
