#Cuomo cackles as lawmakers go soft — but there’s enough for impeachment proceedings now

“What, me worry?” That seems to be the motto Gov. Andrew Cuomo has adopted from Mad Magazine’s Alfred E. Neuman: He not only believes he can ride out his numerous scandals, but that he can even joke about them.

On Monday, he laughed and kidded during a news conference when The Post asked if he’d ever had an intimate relationship with a subordinate.

“Intimate has a number of manifestations,” he cracked. “I think we have an intimate relationship, don’t you think?” Cuomo asked Health Commissioner Howard Zucker, who sat nearby. “Not a sexual relationship.”

Gee, how cute. Yet these scandals are anything but funny. Attorney General Letitia James has now stepped up her probe of the sexual-harassment allegations against him, issuing subpoenas to four accusers.

And his levity came on the same day as an op-ed column by former aide Karen Hinton cited a “pattern” of discrimination and harassment by Cuomo dating back to his days as secretary of Housing and Urban Development under President Bill Clinton.

Meanwhile, FBI probes into the gov’s nursing-home coverup and shady $5.1 million book deal may also be heating up: As The Post’s Bernadette Hogan and Bruce Golding report, agents interviewed the chairman of the Senate Health Committee this month about both matters.

Then again, lawmakers do seem to be ready to give the gov a pass on his wrongdoing. They’ve already had ample evidence to move toward impeachment, yet they’ve dithered, with Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie refusing to take any action before James concludes her probe. And Heastie’s chamber has so far set aside just $250,000 for its own investigation, only enough to cover barely three weeks of full-time work by its outside lawyers.

The joke’s getting old. With James’ report coming hopefully soon, and the FBI ramping up, lawmakers need to grow a backbone and start impeachment proceedings. Don’t let Cuomo get away with it.
