#Cuomo advised to get counseling as harassment claims mounted

As sexual harassment accusations mounted back in March, a political adviser urged embattled three-term Gov. Andrew Cuomo to publicly declare he’d go for counseling to address his allegedly abusive and bullying behavior, an investigative report reveals.

The adviser, identified as a “former political consultant,” sent an email to top Cuomo aide Melissa DeRosa on March 9 saying the governor should get psychological help to “get out ahead” of state Attorney General General Letitia James’ investigative report on sexual harassment claims leveled against him by current and former female subordinates.

James’ damning report released on Tuesday, concluded that Cuomo, the state’s chief executive since 2011, sexually harassed 11 women — including current and former staffers and even a female trooper on his personal security detail — in violation of state and federal law.

Cuomo, 63, is not married. He split with longtime partner Sandra Lee two years ago. He was previously married to Kerry Kennedy, with whom he has three daughters — Michaela, Cara and Mariah.

“I said to u before but I will reiterate again. I think he needs to say he is going to counseling for his tendency to be aggressive and to reacclimate how he interacts with people,” the adviser said in an email that was submitted as evidence in the attorney general’s 168-page report.

“AG Report may find no offense but will find inappropriate behavior so why [not] get out ahead of this now. So the pattern of all these allegations is addressed with this offer for counseling and training,” the consultant told DeRosa.

The consultant said he knew a group called “Mine the Gap” in Washington, DC that works with corporate clients to improve workplace culture.

“He needs to do something about his pattern of behavior — counseling and training is taking action to insure change. That I think is the permission for folks to focus on his positive attributes rather than the bully and inappropriate behavior,” the consultant said.

The state Assembly Judiciary Committee, which is meeting on Monday, plans to prepare articles of impeachment against Cuomo at the end of August after the scandal-scarred governor submits evidence for his defense.

Meanwhile, Cuomo is facing investigations from five different district attorneys, who are following up on findings in AG James’ report that the governor violated state laws regarding harassment and even potential sex crimes.

As The Post exclusively reported on Friday, an assistant who has accused the governor of groping her while they took a selfie together filed a criminal complaint against him with the Albany County Sheriff’s Office.

The governor has been hunkered down at the governor’s mansion, where The Post found him poolside Thursday amid an avalanche of calls for him to resign.
