All the details we know about Crossing Swords Season 2

Never fear, Squire Patrick is here! Well, he will be, to continue protecting the kingdom in Crossing Swords Season 2.

On June 18, Hulu announced the renewal of Crossing Swords and animated original series Solar Opposites, for Seasons 2 and 3 respectively. Crossing Swords, which premiered on June 12, was created by Robot Chicken writer Tom Root and executive producer John Harvatine IV who will both be returning for the series’s second season.

With that in mind, here’s everything that we know so far about Crossing Swords Season 2.

Crossing Swords Season 2 release date

No release date has been set for Crossing Swords Season 2. Although COVID-19 has shut down filming for live-action series, animated series such as The Simpsons and Bob’s Burgers have continued releasing new episodes each week. Just as well, CBS’s Tooning Out the News has also found itself able to adapt to the quarantine restrictions.

Still, animated series such as Arcane, a League of Legends spin-off, and The Legend of Vox Machina, created by the Critical Role team, have had to halt production due to the quarantine restrictions. According to Deadline, with the means of communication shifting, many animated series have found aspects of production slowing down. An animation producer told Deadline:

“Usually you have everyone working together in a studio with the director and review and revisions got from Person A to Person B quite quickly…With the way things are now, that is taking a lot longer and we’ve lost some of the ability to screen together, which also slows things down.”

Just as well, home computers are not well-equipped to deal with the large audio and video files that make up one episode of an animated series. With animation production currently encountering these obstacles to production, production for Crossing Swords Season 2 could certainly face the same obstacles. Although Hulu’s other original animated series, The Awesomes, the second season premiered within a year of being picked up, it’s unclear whether Crossing Swords, which is a stop-motion animation series, can expect the same turnaround.

If not, the show may not see its second season airing until 2022 or later if COVID-19 halts production. The first season did take two years to produce.

Crossing Swords Season 2 cast and possible synopsis

While no casting announcements have been made for Crossing Swords Season 2, at the very least, you should expect to see back Nicholas Hoult, who voices the series protagonist Patrick, as well as Luke Evans, who voices the dishonorable King Merriman. Of course, I would also expect to see back the rest of the royal family, which includes King Merriman’s wife Queen Tulip, voiced by Alanna Ubach and their daughter Princess Blossom played by Maya Erskine.

I would also expect to see back Jameela Jamil, whose character Diane Sloane was revealed to be the assassin responsible for killing three lords and attempting to assassinate the royal family.

After being separated from her mother, the rightful heir to the throne who was locked up in the kingdom’s castle, Diane vowed to return to her and seek vengeance on King Merriman. Ultimately, her plan was foiled by Patrick, but not before she was able to blow up the castle and escape.

Trailer and synopsis for Crossing Swords Season 2

No official synopsis or trailer has been released for Crossing Swords Season 2 either, but it’s likely that in Season 2, we’ll see Diane’s return in yet another attempt to dethrone the king. We’ll also likely see the fallout from the attack as the kingdom attempts to rebuild, and Patrick’s sense of duty to the kingdom increase through his guilt of being deceived by Danielle.
