As of Tuesday night, according to NFL Network, the Cowboys’ final offer to the 26-year-old Prescott was for between $33-35 million a season with more than $100 million guaranteed. However, reports indicate the two sides haven’t talked recently and an agreement is not expected to be reached before 4 p.m. Wednesday deadline.
In March, the Cowboys placed an exclusive franchise tag on Prescott after roughly a year of contract discussions. In June, he signed the $31.4 million franchise tender that ensures he’ll be on the field this year — assuming coronavirus doesn’t prevent the season from happening. Last season, Prescott threw for a career-best 4,902 yards and 30 touchdowns.
The Cowboys signed former Bengals starter Andy Dalton this offseason to a one-year, $7 million contract as a veteran insurance policy.
The main point of contention between Prescott and the Cowboys is the length of the potential extension. The Cowboys want a five-year deal, while Prescott has been consistently pushing for a four-year contract.
The Prescott saga will be far from over, it seems, when today’s deadline passes.
