Monday’s game will mark his first appearance against them without Tom Brady as the opposing quarterback.
The 35-year-old Flacco is expected to start in place of Sam Darnold (shoulder) as the Jets (0-8) seek their first win against the Cam Newton-led Patriots — with Brady now thriving with the Buccaneers.
“I think it’s more strange to see Tom probably in a different uniform than it is to see them without him,” Flacco said Saturday. “But yeah, for sure, it’s definitely something that we’ve all been used to, and really, it kind of seems like my whole life, that’s how it’s been. It’s definitely a little different.”
Bill Belichick and the Patriots also are having a down year in the first season since Brady’s departure. New England enters Monday’s game with a 2-5 record and its first four-game losing streak since 2002.
“I think when you’ve played as many games and seen as many games as I have, nothing really surprises you,” Flacco said. “This league doesn’t give anybody any room to breathe. If you make mistakes that you usually don’t make, it’s not forgiving to anyone. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done in the past.
“It’s a year-to-year league, and you have to prove it every year that you deserve to be at the top. I’m sure they’re playing and practicing hard and doing all the right things just like we are to try to get wins.”
In addition to Darnold, defensive lineman Quinnen Williams (hamstring) and kicker Sam Ficken (groin) didn’t practice and have been listed as doubtful for Monday’s game.
Coach Adam Gase said cornerback Quincy Wilson’s release Friday opens a spot for fifth-round pick Bryce Hall to be activated this week.
