#Cops rescue fleeing NYC ice cream thief

An ice cream thief got his just desserts in Manhattan on Tuesday when he got stuck on a ledge during his unsuccessful getaway — and needed cops to come to his rescue, police said.

Anthony Pastore, 30, allegedly swiped at least eight pints of Häagen-Daz from an Upper East Side CVS around 10 a.m., and then stuffed them in a backpack and fled, the NYPD said.

Officers chased the suspect on foot for about two blocks, to a courtyard at 183 East 98th Street, where he climbed over a fence.

But on the other side was a long drop overlooking an alleyway, leaving Pastore clinging to a small ledge high above the ground, cops said.

The NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit were able to cut through the fence and save the suspect.

The stolen ice cream containers, valued at around $65, were found in his backpack, police said.

Pastore, of Staten Island, was charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. It wasn’t immediately clear whether he had an attorney.

The NYPD 23rd Precinct posted a photo apparently showing Pastore hanging off the ledge, noting that “this man’s getaway didn’t go as planned.”

“We found him, rescued him & brought a safe conclusion to this precarious icecapade,” the tweet said.
