#Cops chase down hammer-wielding woman in Midtown

A woman was taken into custody after allegedly swinging a hammer around on the streets of Manhattan Tuesday morning, according to police and a witness.

The incident unfolded just before 8:45 a.m. when calls came into the NYPD of a woman hitting a light pole with a hammer on W. 48th Street near 8th Avenue, police said.

When officers got on scene, the woman took off down the avenue, but cops caught up to the woman on W. 40th Street and 7th Avenue, according to the NYPD.

Video posted on Twitter shows the unidentified woman being pinned to the pavement by two NYPD officers, claiming she had attacked people with a hammer. It does not show the purported attack. Cops could not confirm whether any people were attacked and no injuries have been reported.

The witness also tweeted a photo of the alleged weapon in a puddle.

The woman, whose name was not released, was taken to Bellevue Hosptial for a psychological evaluation.
