#Connecticut ‘strongly recommending’ indoor masks as cases increase

Connecticut officials are “strongly recommending” that all residents over the age of two — regardless of vaccination status — wear masks indoors after seven of the state’s eight counties have been classified by the CDC as having “substantial transmission” of COVID-19.

The Connecticut Department of Public Health said Sunday that Middlesex County was the latest of the state’s counties to cross the CDC’s threshold for mandatory indoor masks, prompting the recommendation.

Litchfield County has not yet crossed that threshold the CDPH said, however it anticipates that it soon will due to current transmission trends.

The CDC classifies counties with greater than 50 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents over seven days as “substantial.”

According to the most recent state report released on July 30, Connecticut experienced 491 new cases over the previous week, with a positivity increase of 2.71 percent. The report listed total hospitalizations as 116.
