Over the last weekend, Comic Market (known better as Comiket) celebrated its 100th show in 47 years, bringing a horde of people to Tokyo Big Sight to celebrate fan culture. How big was that horde? Well, Comiket was more than happy to reveal how many people walked through the halls of doujinshi over the weekend, posting daily numbers over on the market’s Twitter account.

Over both days, 170,000 people went to Comiket 100, with around 85,000 people over each day. This was despite the threat of a typhoon in the morning of the first day that eventually hit Tokyo later in the day. Comiket had previously announced back in January that it was aiming for around 160,000 to 180,000 attendees with tickets once again only being sold in advance like Comiket 99, which was brought in to limit the number of attendees that could go due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

10,000 circles – booths set up to sell fan goods, whether it is doujinshi manga, games, books about random things, photobooks or cosplay ROMs, even VTubers just meeting fans – participated in Comiket 100.

Comiket 100’s 170,000 attendees are much less than the record 750,000 people at winter Comiket in December 2019 but it is still one of the biggest events in the world since the start of the pandemic. The market has already confirmed that it will be returning this winter for Comiket 101.
