#Colin Powell endorses Biden, praises his character in DNC video

Former GOP Secretary of State Colin Powell endorsed Joe Biden’s presidential bid on Tuesday, joining an increasing number of Republicans who are supporting the Democratic nominee.

In his video endorsement, expected to be played at the Democratic National Convention, Powell — who served in George W. Bush’s administration — praised Biden’s character without directly addressing President Trump.

“What I learned growing up in the South Bronx and serving in uniform were the same values that Joe Biden’s parents instilled in him in Scranton, Pennsylvania,” the retired four-star Army general said.

“I support Joe Biden for the presidency of the United States because those values still define him and we need to restore those values to the White House. Our country needs a commander in chief who takes care of our troops in the same way he would is own family,” he continued.

“For Joe Biden, that doesn’t need teaching. It comes from the experience he shares with millions of military families, sending his beloved son off to war and praying to God he would come home safe.”

Powell joins a swelling number of Republicans who have this week come out in support of Biden, including former Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Sen. John McCain’s widow Cindy McCain.

Powell was forced by Bush to resign in 2004 after he falsely claimed to the United Nations Security Council that Iraq was hiding weapons of mass destruction.

Trump in June called the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff a “real stiff” after he announced that he would be supporting Biden, hitting the former secretary’s record and accusing him of false justifications to go to war in Iraq.
