#Cold temps could cause falling iguanas in South Florida on Christmas

Christmas Day in South Florida will likely feature unusually low temperatures — along with a chance of falling iguanas, forecasters said.

“Brrr! Much colder temps expected for Christmas,” the National Weather Service’s Miami office tweeted on Monday.

“Low temperatures in the 30s/40s and falling Iguanas are possible. Keep up with forecast changes and stay warm!”

The mercury is projected to stay below normal for about a week in South Florida, forecasters said.

The possibility of falling iguanas is not entirely uncommon.

Last January, the weather service’s Miami outpost issued the same alert, with an explainer as to what causes the phenomenon.

“Iguanas are cold blooded. They slow down or become immobile when temps drop into the 40s. They may fall from trees, but they are not dead,” the office wrote in a tweet.
