“#CNN’s John King reveals he has multiple sclerosis, rails at anti-vaxxers”
CNN anchor John King revealed he has multiple sclerosis as he lashed out at vaccine critics on the air Tuesday, telling them to “man up or shut up.”
King made the bombshell announcement during a roundtable discussion about COVID-19 on his show “Inside Politics,” noting the importance of vaccinations to people who are immunocompromised.
“I’m gonna share a secret I’ve never spoken before,” King said. “I’m immunocompromised. I have multiple sclerosis, right?
“So I’m grateful you’re all vaccinated,” he told his guests. “I’m grateful my employer says all these amazing people who work on the floor, who came in here for the last 18 months when we were doing this, are vaccinated now that we have vaccines. I worry about bringing it home to my 10-year-old son who can’t get a vaccine.”
People with underlying health conditions can have a weakened autoimmune response to a virus, even when they’re fully vaccinated. That showed the importance that people around them also get inoculated, he said.
King and others were firing back at some media pundits who questioned the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccines, after the death of former US Secretary of State Colin Powell on Monday. Powell had COVID, but was also 84 years, suffering from blood cancer and had Parkinson’s Disease.
“I don’t like the government telling me what to do,” King said. “I don’t like my boss telling me what to do. In this case, it’s important.”
The CNN host noted more than 726,000 Americans have died related to the global pandemic, while the cable news network chyron noted a study that said people are 11 times more likely to die from the coronavirus when they haven’t been jabbed.
“Focus on the science,” he said. “Or put it this way: Man up or shut up.”
