#Claudell Washington, Yankees and Mets outfielder, dead at 65

Claudell Washington, a versatile outfielder who finished his MLB career with the Yankees, died on Wednesday morning at the age of 65.

ESPN.com first reported the news. Washington was living in the San Francisco area and had been battling illness for several years, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Washington, a Los Angeles native, played 17 seasons in the major leagues, including four with the Yankees and one with the Mets. Washington, who retired after the 1990 season as a Yankee, was a two-time All-Star and won a World Series his rookie season with the Athletics in 1974.
