DC Comics is teaming up with Kodansha to release three manga series, featuring Superman and Batman. The titles will be released officially in English for the first time, exclusively on the DC Universe Infinite platform. Printed collected volumes of each manga series will be released later this year.

The new manga titles from Kodansha include Joker: One Operation Joker, Superman vs. Meshi, and Batman: Justice Buster. All titles will be released in English throughout 2023. 

Each series will be published digitally first, in a webtoon serialized format for DC Universe Infinite subscribers. Afterwards, the chapters will be compiled into full print volumes that will be released in stores later this year. The DC Universe Infinite platform will undergo a new update to optimize the webtoon vertical scrolling reading experience for manga. 

The release of these titles were announced during DC’s industry presentation at comics retailer convention ComicsPro. No release dates have been announced for each manga series’ digital serializations.

Here are the full details of each title: 

Joker: One Operation Joker

Joker: One Operation Joker is written by Satoshi Miyagawa (Space Battleship Tiramisu creator) and illustrated by Keisuke Gotou. The manga series follows Batman’s arch-nemesis, The Joker, who has to take care of a Batman who has turned into a baby. 

It was first serialized in Kodansha’s Morning magazine on January 7, 2021. Two tankoubon volumes have been released so far. The English-language release is expected to be sometime in 2023 on DC Universe Infinite. It will be available on print and digital platforms afterwards.

DC Comics describes the synopsis of Joker: One Operation Joker as: 

Joker: One Operation Joker is the Joker like you’ve never seen him before…as a single father?!

After a fateful encounter with Batman that results in the Dark Knight de-aging to a baby, Joker takes it upon himself to raise the child into the crusader of justice! But does the Clown Prince of Crime really understand what it means to be Batman—or, more importantly, what it means to raise a baby all by yourself? 

Superman vs. Meshi

Superman vs. Meshi is written by Satoshi Miyagawa and illustrated by Kai Kitago. It ran in Kodansha’s former bi-weekly magazine seinen magazine Evening from 2021 to 2022. Three tankoubon volumes have been released in total. 

The series will be released in English sometime in 2023 on DC Universe Infinite, with availability on both print and digital platforms later on.

The story is described by DC Comics as: 

It’s hungry work being Superman! That’s why every day for lunch in Superman vs. Meshi, Superman makes a quick stop over in Japan to try a new chain restaurant. Whether it’s a hearty bowl of curry or conveyor-belt sushi, the Man of Steel loves to indulge in the delectable delicacies the country has to offer. He’ll even share a meal with the other members of the Justice League from time to time in the hopes of showing them an incredible culinary experience.

Batman: Justice Buster

Batman: Justice Buster is written by Eiichi Shimizu and illustrated by Tomohiro Shimoguchi (Ultraman manga series). It was first serialized in Kodansha’s Morning magazine on December 24, 2020 and has released two tankoubon volumes so far. 

The manga will be released in English sometime in 2023 on DC Universe Infinite. It will be available on print and digital platforms at a later date. 

DC Comics describes the story as: 

In Batman: Justice Buster, Gotham City has been under the protection of Batman for only a short amount of time, but since the vigilante’s appearance, crime has changed. It’s gotten more bold, more destructive.

As Batman tries to rise to meet these new threats, he develops a computer system, ROBIN, to help him analyze and subdue the rising criminal tide and hopefully one day put an end to crime in Gotham.
