Chance The Rapper‘s breakout mixtape Acid Rap will turn 10 this year, and the Chicago native has planned a concert to commemorate the milestone.

Taking to Instagram on Wednesday (February 1) to share a montage of moments from the Acid Rap era as Donny Hathaway’s “Jealous Guy” plays over it, Chance asked his fans: “Who wants a show?”

Released in April 2013, his sophomore mixtape features the likes of BJ The Chicago Kid, Vic Mensa, Twista, Childish Gambino, Twista, Ab-Soul and more solidified Chance’s place on the music scene.

Released before the streaming era, Acid Rap still ended up charting at No. 63 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums three months after its release due to bootleg downloads on iTunes and Amazon. The project’s official home was mixtape site DatPiff, where it’s since been certified “diamond” with over 1 million downloads.

The project was praised by fans, critics and peers alike, with Rapsody even telling HipHopDX in 2013 that Acid Rap was her favorite album of the entire year.

“Oh, that’s easy,” Rapsody said. “I’m gonna give that one to my brother from Chicago, Chance The Rapper for Acid Rap. That’s easy … without a doubt. I won’t even blink.”

She continued: “One thing I love is that he doesn’t sound like anybody. I was just talking to someone the other day, and you can’t put [Chance] in a one lane, category, or one box. It’s Hip Hop, but it’s also funky, and he sings on it, so he’s got all these different characteristics, ideas and sounds that he brings together and makes his own.”

She added: “When he dances, you know it’s Chicago, ‘cause I see a similar thing in Vic Mensa who’s also from Chicago. So that’s what I love, and it’s fun and honest.”

Chance would wait until 2019 to drop his debut album The Big Day – but then went radio silent for a time. Despite being stacked with an eclectic range of features, the project was universally deemed a flop and spawned a $3 million lawsuit from his ex-manager.

However, things began to finally pick up in May of 2022 when the Chicago rapper started dropping off new music, which he dubbed “writing exercises.”

In an interview with Complex in September, Chance said he’s ready to put it all together in the form of a new project called Star Line Gallery.

“The ‘Gallery’ is the Star Line, and the Star Line is all of us,” Chance said of the title. “It’s going to be all Black artists from everywhere around the world with all different experiences, but a connection, and in conversation with me and my collaborators to create new pieces that show what it means to be Black right now. It’s not all drenched in the conversation of trauma or about the most familiar aesthetic of Black that we know right now. It’s about what is real.”

The project has not yet received a release date.
