#Netflix: Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon gets First Trailer | Breakdown, Release Date, and More

Are you ready to experience an epic two-part space opera? Netflix just dropped the first trailer for Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon: A Child of Fire. The director’s fans would be delighted to witness his trademark visual style in full form in his post-Snyderverse era. The upcoming sci-fi film looks like a creative marriage of the Star Wars and Dune universes. Let’s take a look at the first trailer for Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon with a proper breakdown and learn more details including release date, cast and crew.

Rebel Moon’s first trailer breakdown

The first trailer for Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon was revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live in Germany. Overall, the trailer offers a generous glimpse into the world of Rebel Moon and showcases genre elements like fantasy, action and adventure.

Throughout the nearly four-minute teaser trailer, Zack Snyder’s signature directorial traits are scattered all over the place. The filmmaker’s dark and gritty cinematography and world building need no introduction thanks to films like 300 and Justice League

The trailer also teases princesses with prophecies and majestic winged creatures that look like Buckbeak from the Harry Potter franchise. Each frame looks visually astounding, punctuated by Snyder’s trademark slow-motion shots.

Sofia Boutella plays the main character Kora. She seems like a mysterious stranger who lives with other villagers in a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy.

However, this colony faces a dire threat from the armies of a tyrannical ruling force known as the Mother World. Now, Kora becomes their last hope for survival. She forms a team of fighters comprising outsiders, insurgents, and war orphans from various worlds.

The team has a common purpose of redemption and revenge. They take a stand against the Mother World as the entire fate of their galaxy rests on Kora’s team.

Cast and crew of Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon

Netflix has a penchant to bring together the best names in the business for their projects. Apart from Sofia Boutella, the film stars Ed Skrein, Charlie Hunnam, Michiel Huisman, Djimon Hounsou, Staz Nair, Bae Doona, Ray Fisher, Anthony Hopkins, and E. Duffy.

Zack Snyder has co-written the script for Rebel Moon with Shay Hatten who worked with him in Army of the Dead and Kurt Johnstad who worked with him in 300. Junkie XL, the man behind Justice League and Mad Max: Fury Road is composing the background score.

Interestingly, Zack Snyder had pitched Rebel Moon as a story for the Star Wars universe. This was before Disney acquired Lucasfilm. The director continues his collaboration with Netflix after the 2021 film, Army of the Dead.

When will Rebel Moon and its sequel release on Netflix?

Rebel Moon’s overarching narrative will take two separate films to reach the audience. The first installment titled A Child of Fire is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on December 22, 2023, just in time for the holiday season.

The second part titled The Scargiver is slated for release on April 19, 2024. A theatrical release seems unlikely for both films. However, fans have already taken to Twitter to campaign for Netflix to release Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon on the big screen.
