Celine Dion postponed the first part of her 2023 European tour today (December 8), announcing that she’s been diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder called stiff person syndrome, currently thought to be incurable. She shared the sad news this morning in a video posted to her YouTube channel, saying the disease has been affecting her health for some time, impairing her ability to sing and perform everyday tasks.

“I’ve been dealing with problems with my health for a long time,” Dion explains in the clip. “And it’s been really difficult for me to face these challenges and to talk about everything that I’ve been going through. Recently, I’ve been diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder called the stiff person syndrome which affects something like one in a million people. While we’re still learning about this rare condition, we now know this is what’s been causing all of the spasms I’ve been having.”

As she works with a sports medicine therapist on rebuilding her strength, Dion will not be performing any of her scheduled tour dates from May–July 2023, tentatively rescheduling most of them starting in March 2024 and cancelling eight of them completely. According to a post to her verified Twitter account, her August–October 2023 shows will remain as scheduled for the time being. View the full details below.
