These scores also make Jackass Forever the highest-rated film of the series. Released in 2002, the original Jackass movie has a rotten score of 49%, though its audience score is a bit better at 75% fresh. Jackass: Number Two, released in 2006, has a critical score of 64% with an audience score of 80%. Jackass 3 landed at 66% fresh with a 69% audience score.
“I’ll simply summarize like this: this is the most — and the hardest — I’ve laughed in a movie in years,” noted critic Jeremy Jahns.
“While the group is a bit more weathered after so many years of injuries and trying to outdo themselves … they still manage to have that youthful glee that is incredibly effective and especially infectious,” adds Bullz-Eye.com’s Rob Dean.
Suggesting a film that’s just as gross as it is hilarious, critic Barry Hertz of Globe and Mail said, “I watched a good deal of it while either covering my eyes, gritting my teeth, grimacing so hard that my jaw snapped, yelping in half-mock terror, suppressing the urge to throw up or laughing maniacally.”
“It shouldn’t be fun to watch anybody being humiliated,” writes Time’s Stephanie Zacharek. “Yet the core Jackass group make it fun, not only by laughing at each other, but by so willingly laughing at themselves.”
And Rolling Stone’s David Fear says, “You go because they want you to laugh — like, really doubled-over, tears-streaming-down-face, can’t-breath belly laugh — at their pain. And you most definitely will laugh. Likely a lot.”
This Might Not Be the End of the Jackass Franchise
Johnny Knoxville has said he won’t be putting his body through any more dangerous stunts like the ones seen in Jackass Forever. This doesn’t mean he sees this fourth movie as the very end of the franchise, though it certainly could be. Knoxville has mentioned how this new movie brought in some fresh cast members which opens the door for the franchise to continue with new “Jackasses” at the center of the shenanigans.
“I don’t know, we could do another Jackass,” Knoxville told Extra. “We have a young cast. We have a ton of ideas we didn’t even get to. But if there was another one, I would probably step back and sit next to Jeff, more times than not, behind the camera. But we could do another one, yeah.”
Jackass Forever is now playing in movie theaters, where it’s already raking in loads of money at the box office.
