#Cartier Love collection celebrates 50 with new necklace

Born in 1969, Cartier’s iconic Love bracelet was the creation of New York designer Aldo Cipullo, who had a knack for transforming everyday objects into unconventional jewels. Cipullo secured two golden arcs tightly around the wrist using functional and visible screws, whose design was echoed around the bangle in a series of engraved screw heads. With no clasp, the bracelet required a dedicated screwdriver — not to mention commitment, just like its namesake.

Thanks to its modern, unisex appeal, Love quickly became a popular token of cool around the globe, shared by couples such as Steve McQueen and Ali MacGraw; today’s celebrity fans include Lily Collins, Meghan Markle and Angelina Jolie.

Now, more than half a century later, Cartier has announced a new addition to its Love family: a necklace in yellow or rose gold that’s accented with the collection’s famous screw motif (plus a handy clasp). Love is, indeed, all around.

All at Cartier Manhasset, 2100 Northern Blvd., Manhasset, LI
