The Tournament of Roses is back. After returning last year following canceled festivities, the 134rd Rose Parade will march down Pasadena’s Colorado Boulevard on Monday, Jan. 2, 2023. (The event has held a “Never on a Sunday” tradition since 1893.)

Former Arizona congresswoman Gabby Giffords is the grand marshal of the floral float-filled festivities, which will air live starting at 8 a.m. PT / 11 a.m. ET on local ABC and NBC channels, the Hallmark Channel, KTLA-5, RFD-TV and Univision, and will stream on Peacock. It will precede the 109th Rose Bowl game presented by Prudential.

The 2023 theme is “Turning the Corner,” which “celebrates the unlimited potential that each new year brings,” per a release. Adds Tournament of Roses president Amy Wainscott, “whether that corner is actual or figurative like the unlimited potential that each new year brings — we all enjoy the opportunity of a fresh start. Turning a corner means rising above — alone, or with family, friends and community. This year, as we turn the corner together, we share in the hope, beauty and joy of what 2023 will bring.”

Fitz and the Tantrums will kick off the parade with a special performance presented by Honda featuring youth singers and the Rose Parade Youth Dance Group, and Grammy-winning artist Tanya Tucker will close out the festivities with a grand finale presented by Mansion Entertainment Group.

Live spectators and viewers at home can expect to see floats from brands, corporations, nonprofits including the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, City of Hope, Louisiana Travel, Nascar, Pennsylvania State University, Snapchat, Stoopid Buddy Stoodios in partnership with Nouns, Trader Joe’s and more. Southern California cities such as Burbank, South Pasadena and Torrance will also roll through with botanical-covered creations.

The 2023 Rose Queen is Altadena high school student Bella Ballard, an Ogburn School senior heading to Yale in the fall. Per a release, Ballard volunteers with Ronald McDonald House Charities and Chelsea Football Club; plays soccer at Santa Clarita Blue Heat Football Club, West Coast Football Club and Venice Beach Football Club; and plays tennis at The Arroyo Seco and Flint Canyon Tennis Clubs.
