California Governor Galvin Newsom unveiled a new online color-coded map that will track when indoor businesses such as restaurants and movie theaters can re-open based on the county-by-county numbers of new coronavirus cases and positive test results.

The guidelines go into effect on August 31, the Sacramento Bee reported.

Currently, 38 out of 58 counties are in the purple or the “widespread” tier. There are also nine counties in the “Red” or “substantial” disease spread category

According to the new rules, each county can only move down to a less restrictive tier if there is a decrease in COVID-19 numbers.

NEW: California is launching a Blueprint for a Safer Economy.

It’s simple.

Your county will be assigned a color based on:

– Case rate

– Positivity rate

Your color determines how businesses can operate in your county.

“COVID-19 will be with us for a long time and we need to adapt,” said Newsom.

Counties in the Red Tier will be allowed to begin operating movie theatres with 25% of its normal capacity. Counties in the orange tier can operate at 50%.

The map will be updated every Tuesday.
