#Bruce Arians’ family wanted him to opt out of Super Bowl winning season

Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians is a Super Bowl champion, but if his family had their way, he wouldn’t have won a single game in 2020.

Arians revealed to the Los Angeles Times that his wife and kids wanted him to opt out of the season, as they were concerned he would contract COVID-19. The 68-year-old is a prostate cancer survivor and is considered to be in the high-risk category.

“Some people said, ‘Dad, you need to opt out this year,’ and I was like, ‘No way. I’ll risk it. It’s going to be a magical year,’” Arians told the newspaper.

This prediction turned out to be true, as Arians walked away from the 2020 season with a Super Bowl championship, becoming the oldest head coach in the history of the NFL to do so. His quarterback, Tom Brady, also became the oldest quarterback to win a ring.

Arians told the LA Times he and his wife were extremely careful all season, and that he is now vaccinated.

“I went to work, came home,” Arians said. “We haven’t gone out to dinner since July. We have all these open-air restaurants here, but I just couldn’t risk it. Both of us are high risk.”
