Brent Faiyaz is laying out the less-sunny side of what a relationship with him is really like on “MERCEDES,” the Maryland artist’s latest single. In the brooding, gently psychedelic song produced by Faiyaz and his Sonder collaborator Atu, Faiyaz describes how the fancy baubles like the song’s titular car can’t conceal the lonely nights and paranoia over being used that come with being an R&B superstar. Listen below.
2021 has seen Brent Faiyaz take his musical collaborations to a whole new echelon. He teamed up with Drake for “Wasting Time,” a song produced by The Neptunes, dropped “Gravity” featuring Tyler, The Creator, and featured on tracks from Baby Keem (“Lost Souls”) and Tems “Found”). His track “Circles” featuring the dream-pop band Purr was on repeat in our headphones when it dropped in February.
