#Bradley Beal in COVID protocols, won’t play in 2020 Olympics

Bradley Beal will not join Team USA in Tokyo for the rescheduled 2020 Olympics.

The Wizards guard, who joined the 12-man Team USA roster after a stellar season in D.C., will miss the Summer Games after entering health and safety protocols Thursday.

Following the news, Team USA coach Gregg Popovich called the turn of events “devastating.”

“I’m dying for him — we all are,” Popovich said about Beal, according to NBC Sports Washington. “Since he was a little kid, this has been a dream of his… it’s devastating.

“We just feel horrible about it.”

It’s unclear if he tested positive for COVID-19, or if he is vaccinated against coronavirus.

USA Basketball said a roster replacement for Beal will be announced at a later time.

The same day of the news about Beal’s olympic absence, on Thursday, it was reported that Team USA member Jerami Grant entered health and safety protocols.

Grant did not test positive for COVID-19, according to The Athletic.

Friday’s game against Australia may be canceled, ESPN reports.
