#Bocchi the Rock! Recap Movie Takes #1 Spot at Japan Weekend Box Office

The top movie on the June 7 to 9 Japanese box office weekend ranking is Bocchi the Rock! Re:, the first part of the new Bocchi the Rock! recap film.

As Kogyo Tsushin reports, Bocchi the Rock! Re: saw a moviegoer count of 140 thousand and a gross of 218 million yen (~US$1.388 million) for the first-three-day period. This first recap includes an opening sequence that features new footage.

Second on the weekend ranking is Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram with 119 thousand moviegoers and 170 million yen. The 27th Conan movie recently became the franchise’s best box office performer and now has more than 14.6 billion yen (~US$92.98 million) total gross. It’s still the 16th top-grossing movie at the Japanese box office, and needs to pass the 14.94 billion yen mark to move past its current position between Makoto Shinkai‘s Suzume and Weathering With You

Other anime movies on the ranking include Umamusume: Beginning of a New Era at fifth place and Idolish7 Live 4bit: Beyond The Period at eighth. At sixth place is the live-action movie adaptation of the Teasing Master Takagi-san manga.

The second Bocchi the Rock! recap, Bocchi the Rock! Re:Re:, is set to premiere in Japan on August 9. Crunchyroll and Sony will distribute both parts in North America.

A lyric video for Bocchi the Rock! Re‘s opening song, “Tsukinami ni Kagayake,” was released on June 8 JST.

The original Bocchi the Rock! TV series started in October 2022 and ended with 12 episodes. The anime adapts the Houbunsha-published 4-koma manga by Aki Hamazi, which follows the skilled but anxiety-ridden guitarist Hitori “Bocchi” Gotoh as she becomes part of a band led by the cheerful Nijika Ichiji.
