#Bobby Dalbec is a bright spot in miserable Red Sox season

Currently holding one of baseball’s worst records, Boston (16-29) has found hope for the future in rookie Bobby Dalbec, who has homered in five straight games.

Dalbec, who homered in his major league debut on Aug. 30, followed by going 0-for-14 with nine strikeouts in the four games that followed. Since then, Dalbec has put on one of the most impressive power displays in the majors, becoming just the fifth player in MLB history with at least six home runs in his first 10 games, according to MLB Pipeline, while also becoming the first hitter since 1900 to homer in five straight games during his first 10 career games, according to MLB.com.

In Thursday’s 4-3 win over the first-place Rays, Dalbec’s 377-foot shot had a 106.1 mph exit velocity.

“Bobby’s power has been on display,” teammate Xander Bogaerts told reporters before Thursday’s game. “Since he’s been coming up (through the minors), I’ve been hearing a lot about his power.

“He obviously started off good. Had a couple rough games. But I told him, ‘This is the big leagues, man. This is hard.’ … It’s a learning lesson, especially in his position. He’s young. Pitchers are going to adjust. You’ve got to adjust back. So just try to enjoy it as much as possible.”

Dalbec, 25, was selected by the Red Sox in the fourth round of the 2016 MLB Draft after playing at the University of Arizona. While playing a combined 135 games in Double-A and Triple-A last season, Dalbec slashed 239/.356/.460 with 27 home runs.

The infielder was added to the major league roster, following Boston’s trade of first baseman Mitch Moreland, and has gone 7-for-18 with seven RBIs and two walks in the past five games.
