#AOC defends Harry Styles’ ‘Vogue’ dress: ‘It looks wonderful’

Haters be damned, says Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of Harry Styles’ Vogue cover, in which the singer wears a dress.

The “Cherry” singer, 26, recently received backlash for wearing a ball gown in his shoot for American Vogue’s December cover. However, AOC thinks he looks great, and that those who feel otherwise need to take a closer look at themselves.

“It looks wonderful,” the congresswoman wrote on Instagram Stories, in response to a follower’s question of “What do you think [about] Harry styles wearing a dress on the cover of Vogue.”

She goes on to note that “the masculine and feminine elements are balanced beautifully — the hair and jacket styling give me James Dean vibes, too.”

The politician, 31 — who recently took some flack for wearing a $14,000 outfit in her own Vanity Fair magazine cover recently — continued that oversensitivity is likely to blame as the reason some people took issue with Styles’ couture look.

“Some people are mad at it bc some folks are very sensitive to examining and exploring gender roles in society,” she wrote, according to screenshots published in Harper’s Bazaar. “Perhaps for some people it provokes some anger or insecurity around masculinity/femininity/etc. If it does, then maybe that’s part of the point. Sit with that reaction and think about it, examine it, explore it, engage it, and grow with it.”

She then waxes more abstractly about the purpose of art and content.

“What’s the point of creating things if they don’t make people think?” she asks. “Or feel or reflect? Especially as an artist or creative? Who wants to see the same things all the time? And never explore their assumptions? Anyway it looks bomb so,” she concludes with a shrugging emoji.

Conservative firebrand Candace Owens was among the louder voices to come out critiquing Styles’ outfit, saying on Twitter that “there is no society that can survive without strong men.” Despite receiving backlash for her backlash, Owens has refused to apologize or back down.
