“Bob Odenkirk Praises Better Call Saul Co-Star Peter Diseth After Series Finale”
Six seasons of Better Call Saul culminated with a series finale that saw Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) finally facing the music for the many crimes he committed in the Breaking Bad universe alongside Walter White (Bryan Cranston). After he was recognized and arrested, Jimmy “Saul” McGill was set to go to court to answer for the serious charges against him. One of the first people he called was former prosecutor Bill Oakley (Peter Diseth), who had since switched sides and was now serving as a defense attorney in the city of Albuquerque.
Bringing back Bill for the series finale was a nice touch for fans, as the character and Jimmy had shared so many memorable scenes in the courtroom in prior seasons. Odenkirk himself was also happy to see Bill’s return and praised the actor’s work with a post on Twitter. After Diseth tweeted an image of the Better Call Saul family all together, Odenkirk responded with a message of support for Diseth.
Odenkirk tweeted, “Peter! YOU KILLED IT in the finale! Everybody, this is our good castmate Peter Diseth – DA Oakley, and the poor guy had to try to represent Saul Goodman. Impossible task.
“A dream come true,” Diseth said back in a follow-up tweet. “And it was a good dream! Not one of those weird I’m-never-going-to-speak-word-of-this ones! Thank you!”
Another tweet addressed to Odenkirk also noted, “BOB! If it wasn’t for you whispering in Peter G’s ear (I like to imagine it was a whisper) back in season one, I never would have been sitting next to you in the end. I can’t possibly thank you enough for what you’ve given me. So I wont even try. I’ll just say: [heart emoji]”
Bill Oakley Was a Former Rival Turned Legal Representative for Saul Goodman
Peter Diseth’s Bill Oakley had appeared in every previous season of Better Call Saul and served as one of its more memorable supporting players. He often prosecuted defendants whom Jimmy McGill was defending, though he was pretty easily swayed for information and agreements with fast food and vending machine snacks. As Bill switches sides after Jimmy leaves town, it could be inferred that he was impressed with what Jimmy had done in the area as Saul Goodman and saw an opening for a prominent defense lawyer in the city after Saul vanished.
Diseth also appears as the Bill Oakley character in the American Greed: James McGill parody video that was released in promotion of the final season of Better Call Saul. In the video, which you can watch in full below, Bill speaks about Jimmy McGill and his relationship with Chuck (Michael McKean). That may now remind fans of when Jimmy copped up to ruining Chuck’s law career, as when Bill told Jimmy that that wasn’t a crime, Jimmy memorably responded, “Yes it was.” It was one of many touching moments to be seen in the Better Call Saul finale.
