Tsubasa Yamaguchi, the creator of the award-winning Blue Period manga, announced on their Twitter account yesterday that the manga will be taking at least a one-month break from serialization in Monthly Afternoon because they contracted COVID-19. Yamaguchi explained that she hasn’t been feeling well since “the other day” and got a PCR test, which confirmed that she had COVID-19.

In the following Tweet, Yamaguchi said that her condition is steadily improving, though all she is going is “sleeping a lot and healing.” She’s currently recovering at home from the virus with medical treatments.

Blue Period launched in June 2017 in Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon seinen manga magazine, winning the 13th Manga Taisho award and the 44th Kodansha Manga Award for Best General Manga. A TV adaptation aired in the fall 2021 season with Netflix releasing episodes in Japan ahead of the TV broadcast and then internationally a few weeks after.
