#Blackpink’s ‘The Album’ is sassy fun with help from Cardi B

When it comes to girl-on-girl collaborations, Blackpink is officially red-hot.

First, the South Korean sensations sweetened up Lady Gaga’s “Chromatica” track “Sour Candy.” Then they swirled it up with Selena Gomez on the tasty “Ice Cream.”

Now, the K-pop girl group is bringing it to the Bronx with “Bet You Wanna,” a hip-pop joint with Cardi B on the quartet’s debut studio LP, simply titled “The Album,” out Friday.

No doubt, it’s a cross-cultural moment at the beginning of the track when Cardi announces “Blackpink,” officially giving them her co-sign.

Over a bouncy beat, Jennie, Rosé, Lisa and Jisoo engage in some femme flirtatiousness: “Something ’bout me’s takin’ you higher / And you ain’t ever gonna come down … I’m lighting your fire / And it ain’t ever gonna go out.”

Then Cardi crashes — and sasses — the party: “Take the car keys / Drive me crazy / Cardi a good catch / But you gotta chase me.”

The whole thing is pretty tame compared to, say, “WAP,” Cardi’s raunchy hit with Megan Thee Stallion. But you gotta give credit to Blackpink — who have also collaborated with another major pop diva, Dua Lipa, on 2018’s “Kiss and Make Up” — for even getting Cardi in the mix.

Overall, though, “The Album” — featuring lyrics in both English and Korean — fails to even live up to the very basics of that title. With eight songs amounting to 24 minutes, this is easily shorter than some EPs.

However, that kind of works in Blackpink’s favor, because the group’s candy-pop charms are more palatable in small doses. When it clicks — on a tricked-up track such as “Pretty Savage” or the giddy “Lovesick Girls” — it’s fizzy fun.

But elsewhere it fizzles: Judging from the lone ballad, “You Know,” which closes the LP, they should probably not try to get too deep.

In the end, there’s nothing here to suggest that Blackpink is ready to make a real album statement yet.
