“Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) Delayed, Part Two Will Swing Into Theaters in 2024”

Sony has delayed their upcoming animated comic book movie sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One), from October this year to June 2, 2023. While this may come as a disappointment, hopefully, you will be cheered up by what’s next. Alongside the delay, Sony has also revealed that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part Two) has been given a release date, with the sequel-slash-threequel is currently scheduled to hit theaters March 29, 2024.

The release date changes and revelations regarding Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse parts one and two from Sony (via Deadline) come amid several other announcements. The studio’s next installment in their Venom-Verse, Madame Web, has been tapped for release on July 7, 2023, meaning it will come out the same year as their other Spider-Man spinoff, Kraven the Hunter. Outside of the realm of comic book movies, Sony has also revealed that Denzel Washington and Antoine Fuqua will reunite for The Equalizer 3 on September 1, 2023.

Following the introduction of the alternate Spider-Man Miles Morales in 2018’s Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) will see Miles once again dragged into the madness of the multiverse, teaming up with a variety of new Spider-People to take down the latest threat.

While details are somewhat few and far between at present, a recent synopsis for the Sony sequel does provide some clues. “Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered,” the plot outline reads.

This hugely powerful villain is currently a mystery, though rumors have claimed that it is the lesser-known supervillain, The Spot. We do know some of the Spider-People who will join Miles on his next adventure. Moon Knight star Oscar Isaac will return as Miguel O’Hara AKA Spider-Man 2099 following his post-credits appearance at the end of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. An alternate version of Spider-Man from the future, Spider-Man 2099 featured heavily in the trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One), suggesting he will have a major role.

Hailee Steinfeld will also return as Gwen Stacy AKA Spider-Gwen, a super-heroine from another dimension, alongside Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker AKA Spider-Man, an older, disheveled version of Spider-Man, and Shameik Moore as Miles Morales. As well as these familiar faces, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) will also introduce Issa Rae as Jessica Drew AKA Spider-Woman, and Takuya Yamashiro as the “Japanese Spider-Man” from the 1978 Spider-Man series.

Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson from a screenplay by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) is scheduled to be released on June 2, 2023. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part Two) is now due for release on March 29, 2024.
