Big Daddy Kane is an elder statesmen of Hip Hop culture and when he makes a mistake, he’s grown enough to admit it.

On Friday (January 14), the Juice Crew legend was performing at a concert when he unknowingly shoved an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter out of the way. The man, identified as Billy Sanders, was tasked with providing the lyrics for the deaf community attending the show. Thinking Sanders was just an unruly fan, Big Daddy Kane attempted to shoo him away but later learned the man was simply trying to do his job.

A clip started making the rounds on social media but only showed part of what happened. Due to the editing, Kane received some disparaging comments such as, “It’s uncool. What’s wrong with Big Daddy Kane?”

On Saturday (January 15), Big Daddy Kane offered a sincere apology on Instagram and explained the preceding confusion that led to the incident. He also noted the clip circulating online failed to show Kane apologizing to Sanders and giving him a hug.

“So I know a lot of people out there saw this …. but see what y’all didn’t see was this,” he said. “I’ve done a lot of crazy stuff in my life. But I would never try to disrespect an interpreter that’s doing sign language for the deaf community onstage.

“No one told me what was going on. No one told my manager that there was going to be an interpreter. We were clueless, so when I came on stage and saw someone just mouthing the lyrics, I was trying to get them off the stage.”

Big Daddy Kane continued, “But no one showed the clip of me apologizing to the brother and allowing him to stay on stage and finish the show. No one showed the clip of me apologizing to the crowd.

“Because as I said in the clip, I want everyone to enjoy the show, and that means even those who can’t hear it.”

He added in the caption, “Just realizing the whole video didn’t post. Here we go! Also, I just found out the Brothers name. Billy Sanders my sincere apology Bro.”

Big Daddy Kane is expected to perform during the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA®) tournament in Baltimore, Maryland next month alongside Yo-Yo, Rakim, Monie Love, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Michel’le and The Legendary DJ Kool. The tournament takes places on February 22-26. Find more information here.
