#Biden condemns ‘needless violence’ in Kenosha after Jacob Blake shooting

Joe Biden on Wednesday disavowed the deadly anarchy roiling the streets of Kenosha, Wisconsin, in the wake of Jacob Blake’s shooting by police — after he was publicly called out for not doing it earlier.

The Democratic presidential nominee said the “needless violence” needed to stop, but he didn’t make the remarks at a campaign trail stop or during an interview with a reporter — he made them on Twitter, from his basement in Delaware.

“What I saw on that video makes me sick,” Biden said of the stomach-churning footage which captured Blake being shot in the back seven times by police in front of three of his young sons.

“Once again, a black man — Jacob Blake — has been shot by police in broad daylight with the whole world watching,” he continued, recounting how he told Blake’s family that justice had to be served.

“Put yourself in the shoes of every black father and black mother in this country ask, ‘Is this what we want America to be? Is this the country we should be?’” he asked.

He released the video after former GOP Ohio Gov. Josh Kasich earlier Wednesday called on the former veep to condemn the violence and looting taking place in the quiet town of 100,000.

Biden went on to condemn the violence which has seen widespread looting and armed local militia roaming the streets — culminating in the shooting death of two protesters late Tuesday night.

“As I said after George Floyd’s murder, protesting brutality is a right and absolutely necessary. But burning down communities is not protest, it’s needless violence — violence that endangers lives, violence that guts businesses and shutters businesses that serve the community. That’s wrong.”

Earlier Wednesday, President Trump announced he was sending the National Guard and federal troops to Kenosha to restore order in the city which has come to resemble the torched hellscape that rioters and looters turned Minneapolis into after Floyd’s death at the hands of white cops in May.

Trump has yet to comment publicly on the dad-of-six’s shooting at the hands of cops, but unsuccessfully tried to call Blake’s mother, Julia Jackson, she said.

Jackson told CNN’s Don Lemon that she was unimpressed by the fact Trump on Monday shared a tweet about Blake’s criminal record which he has since deleted from his timeline.

“For President Trump, I’m sorry I missed your call because had I not missed your call, maybe the comments that you made would have been different,” she said.

“I’m not mad at you at all. I have the utmost respect for you as the leader of our country,” she continued. “I’m not saying this to him directly [but] we should always get the details from the right source before we start throwing bricks.”

Blake, 29, survived the ordeal but is paralyzed from the waist down, his family’s lawyer said. The police officers involved in his shooting have not been identified but mass protests across the nation this week are demanding justice to be served.
