Beyoncé has finally won a Grammy award for Album of the Year, taking home the trophy for her 2024 LP Cowboy Carter. The album bested albums by André 3000 (New Blue Sun), Sabrina Carpenter (Short n’ Sweet), Charli xcx (brat), Jacob Collier (Djesse Vol. 4), Billie Eilish (Hit Me Hard And Soft), Chappell Roan (The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess), and Taylor Swift (The Tortured Poets Department).
Beyoncé has been nominated four previous times in the Album of the Year category, a fact she alluded to in her acceptance speech. “I just feel very full and very honored. It’s been many, many years.” Her husband Jay Z directly addressed the Recording Academy’s oversight last year during a speech accepting his Global Impact Award: “I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than everyone and never won Album of the Year. So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work.”
