#Best TV Series Coming to Amazon Prime Video in September 2022

“Best TV Series Coming to Amazon Prime Video in September 2022”

Look out, HBO: House of the Dragon faces some stiff competition this year. In addition to its Lord of the Rings series, Amazon Prime Video has a handful of other highly anticipated TV projects in store for September 2022. It’s an exciting time to be in the TV streaming business, and it’s clear Prime Video in particular is keeping up with the other heavy hitters in broadening its reach. Here’s a closer look at what’s to come, both domestically and internationally.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (Series Premiere) — September 2

It’s been several years since The Hobbit trilogy hit the masses — and even longer since the original Lord of the Rings films took Hollywood by storm. The Rings of Power is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings and follows an ensemble cast as they confront the long feared emergence of evil in Middle-earth. The highly anticipated series will finally bring Tolkien’s Second Age to life in a live-action adaptation, beginning with a two-episode premiere on September 2.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“I think to portray the level of beauty that you find in the books is such a massive endeavor,” director J.A. Bayona recently told Gizmodo. “I’m glad that Amazon had the ambition to go there. Also, if you think about the movies, the bar was set so high that we can not offer less to the audience, you know? So to me, it was to be at the level of the expectations, not only for the people who saw the movies but the people who had read the books.”

“What’s so interesting about the Rings of Power is they channel what’s already inside of you,” co-star Robert Aramayo recently told Looper. “That extends to magic or that idea of magic, that idea of the machine that Mr. Tolkien talked about so much. For the elves, the rings are the machine, and I wonder how he feels about it. He doesn’t get that ring straight away. It’s another one of those interesting moments, an interesting question that hopefully the show will answer of why he doesn’t or when he does. That’s all for the future, hopefully.

Prisma (Series Premiere) — September 21

Prime Video’s Italian original series Prisma sees the streamer revisit the theme of gender identity fluidity while catering to a young adult audience and also connecting with Italy’s neorealist roots. The eight-episode show is centered around identical adolescent twins who challenge gender norms in different ways, along with their group of friends who are also going through a similar journey. Prisma is set in the city of Latina, just south of Rome, and its surrounding area, which is known for modernist architecture and fertile agriculture.

Jungle — September 30

Prime Video fans were recently given a first look at the streamer’s upcoming U.K. original drama series Jungle, a six-part scripted series told with both rap/drill music and dialogue. It follows the lives of several strangers in inner city London, each dealing with their own unique struggles. Frequently misunderstood, it’s a world where one law governs everything: only the strongest will survive, according to the show’s promotional campaign. As the strangers’ worlds begin to unravel around them, they come to the realization that every action, no matter how small, has a consequence.
