In the summer of 2021, KSM Anime has confirmed that the anime film «BELLE» should get a German theatrical release. The anime by director Mamoru Hosoda (including “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time”, “Mirai – The Girl from the Future”) has already been shown in Germany. After 2 IMAX previews (OmU) in the presence of Hosoda in December 2021 in Berlin and Hamburg, we have now received a German cinema release from KSM Anime, a label of Koch Films.

«BELLE» should therefore nationwide from June 9, 2022 in German and Austrian cinemas. Hosoda wrote «BELLE» himself and directed it again in his own Chizu studio. The film is a modification of the story about “Beauty and the Beast” in the digital age. The original Japanese title can be roughly translated as «The Dragon and the Princess with Freckles».

This time he found international talents as collaborators. Among other things, there is character designer Jin Kim, who has already worked on the latest Disney films such as “Frozen” and “Encanto”.

The Japanese theatrical release was on July 16, 2021, with the world premiere a day earlier at the Cannes Festival with a 14-minute Stand Ovation took place. The film is also the first Hosoda production to be screened in IMAX theaters.
