#Mets find creative way to get fans into Citi Field this season

There will be paying fans at Citi Field this year, after all.

Well, at least paying fans’ cardboard equivalents.

The Mets finally are offering refunds to all 2020 games (as are the Yankees, with both teams updating their policies on Monday), yet season-ticket holders who opt instead for 2021 credit learned Wednesday, in an email sent from the Mets, that they will be rewarded with the opportunity to set up cardboard likenesses of themselves that will be installed in seats during Mets home games if this coronavirus-delayed season actually takes place.

The fun idea follows a trend set by the A’s. Fans get one cutout per season ticket, and if they want to purchase extras, they can pay a “discounted price,” the precise amount unspecified, to get as many as six. Proceeds from the sales will go to the Mets Foundation COVID-19 Relief Fund.

The Mets own the right to approve all photo submissions for the cutout, and naturally no obscenities, advertising or political messages will be allowed. Nor will the names of any major-league players.

With the Mets’ season scheduled to begin July 24 against the Braves at Citi Field, fans have until Aug. 7 to submit for their cutouts. The Mets’ final scheduled home game is Sept. 23 against the Rays
