#Azur Lane Releases Madhouse-produced Anime Trailer To Commemorate 7th Anniversary

The mobile game Azur Lane has received an anime trailer in commemoration of its seventh anniversary.

The two-minute Madhouse-produced video primarily functions as a montage of various Azur Lane characters with extra focus on Akagi, though there is some action towards the end. It is directed, storyboarded, and unit directed by Daiki Harashina (Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End monster designer et al.), who also held those three roles (and more) for 2020’s Monster Strike x Madhouse collaboration short film Zetsubou Funsai Shoujo ∞ Amida.

Keisuke Kojima (My Isekai Life: I Gained a Second Character Class and Became the Strongest Sage in the World! director and character designer et al.) handled the character designs and animation direction for the Azur Lane seventh anniversary anime trailer. Other staff credits include:

• Color designer and coordinator, painting checker: Harue Ohno (Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End color designer)
• Art director: Norihiko Yokomatsu (Call of the Night)
• Compositing director: Akane Fushihara (Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End)

Madhouse producers Shuichiro Fukushi (Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End co-animation producer, Sonny Boy animation producer) and Sara Hayakawa (Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End production desk) also appear in the credits, although their exact roles are not mentioned.

Azur Lane launched in Japan on September 14, 2017 with Yostar as publisher, a few months after its May release in China. The English version was released in 2019, the same year that the game’s TV anime adaptation began airing.

Google Play describes the naval-themed, ship girl game as a “mix of RPG, 2D shooter and tactical genres.” The premise sees the fleets of the titular Azur Lane organization combating a threat known as the Sirens.
