In the NBA bubble, the team that’s crowned champion might literally be the last team standing.

And Clippers coach Doc Rivers might have found a way to use the NBA’s new “snitch hotline” to his advantage.

“I turned in LeBron [James] yesterday. I turned [Gregg Popovich] in today,” Rivers joked, via ESPN. “I am trying to turn all these guys in … we are going to be the only team left when I am done … No, I don’t think it’s a problem.”

The hotline, which was part of the league’s 113-page memo detailing the safety protocols in Orlando, was set up to allow players and staff to anonymously report any potential rules violations they see. The line has already been ringing, according to The Athletic, with multiple tips submitted.

The tips haven’t exactly been popular among players. When the hotline was announced, Lakers forward Kyle Kuzma dubbed it the “snitch hotline” on Twitter. In response to some of his colleagues submitting tips, Clippers guard Lou Williams tweeted out a rat emoji. In an interview with Bleacher Report, Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie, who is sitting out the restart after testing positive for the coronavirus, announced “To all my fellow NBA players, don’t call the snitch hotline.”

Still, the hotline has produced results. Some players have already received warnings from the league for their violations, The Athletic said, mostly involving mask-wearing and social distancing.

If players do not follow the league’s protocols in the bubble, punishment consists of a warning, a suspension and then a campus ban.

Two players have already felt the effects of the league’s strict safety rules. Rockets forward Bruno Caboclo was reportedly unaware that he could not leave his room during the initial quarantine process upon arrival. Kings center Richaun Holmes “briefly and accidentally” crossed campus lines to pick up a food delivery.

Both players had to restart the quarantine process.

“This is not some normal thing,” Rivers said. “COVID, obviously, not only can you get sick but you can get other people sick. This is very important for all of us. We want to do our jobs, So, having a hotline, I guess that’s important.”
