ArcheAge Unchained Review

ArcheAge unchained follows from its predecessor, ArcheAge which was released back in 2013. It is an online open-world RPG released in 2019. There are mixed reviews in regards to this game, and in this article, I will be sharing my own. So without further ado, let’s begin!

Graphics and Overall Feel

For a game to be successful in the 2020s, the graphics are one of its key factors in determining it. From my perspective, the graphics of ArcheAge unchained is a hit or miss. It’s not something that the game is praised for, but at the same time, it’s not a complete deal-breaker either. Though not structured and filled with details like other popular games, the vibrant colors and the overall environment compensates for it. As for the overall feel of the game, although the movements can feel a bit heavy at times, the experience is overall smooth.

Gameplay

I mentioned the graphics being a vital aspect in determining the success of a game. Well, in the case of gameplay, it is an ABSOLUTE PRIORITY! There are many aspects to its gameplay, which if I try to sum up in this short review, will do nothing but disservice to it. Therefore, I’ll just present the main idea.

The game starts with the customization of your main character. There are 2 factions, each from which you get to choose from 3 races. These include Nuians, Elfs, and Dwarves from the Nuian alliance, and Haranis, Firrans, and Warborns from the Haranyan alliance. The customization is extensive and you get to choose from numerous options. The control over how your main character looks is in my opinion, a very attractive feature in this game. And if that wasn’t enough, by choosing 3 of 6 abilities, you can also create a “class” for your character.

Now, of course, you’d see many RPGs having a combat system; this game is no exception. Though, one thing I might add is that this doesn’t contain your typical one to one battles with NPCs. While, of course, having that aspect, you can secure trade routes and also participate in land and sea invasions! In short, while in combat, you get to relive the middle ages.

Moving on to the housing and crafting mechanics, it is extremely extensive in this area. You can craft equipment, food, vehicles i.e. certain impediments, along with furniture for your home, for both functional and cosmetic uses. The way you have to build houses is quite unique in the regards that it gives you that real-world feel in a sense. You have to first pick an empty slot, give proper structure and decorate your house, and pay taxes. Yes! You have to pay taxes, or else you’ll get your home demolished and risk losing valuable possessions inside of it. The building aspect isn’t only limited to the houses, you can also build castles with your guild in certain circumstances which gives you authority over an area.

Now if that wasn’t enough, this game also contains its own criminal justice system. You can choose to answer jury summons and judge players who have committed heinous crimes, like theft or murder. Minimum and maximum sentences are given according to the vote among the jurors. When you are the one being sentenced, well, you can choose from 2 options. Either you can be a good guy and pay off your debt by working in prison, or you can choose a more awesome approach i.e. escape by digging a hole. There are still repercussions in the latter option though, that is, you can’t use abilities while your sentence hasn’t finished.

The currency in this game is also well-developed. The currency ranges from gold to Gilda stars, to apex, etc. gold being the main one. You can either earn them in the game, or you can get them by paying real money. Speaking of which, if you feel like loosening your pockets, Eldorado has some good offers. You can check out the offers over here https://www.eldorado.gg/archeage-unchained-gold/g/23-0-0 .

Conclusion

While this game may have its ups and downs, and may or may not appeal to certain people’s tastes, from my perspective, it surely is worth checking out.
