Nov. 4 is the day after a historical election and the first leg of Walmart’s three-event Black Friday Deals for Days extravaganza.
We also know it as the day that AirPods dropped below $100.
You can find the AirPods with a wired charging case for $99.99 at Amazon, but Walmart is probably the store to thank.
Walmart wasn’t shy about its plans to shave an unprecedented amount of money off the AirPods with the non-wireless charging case — the deal was displayed on the front page of their Black Friday ad, which has been out for weeks. The only caveat was that $99 wouldn’t show up until the kickoff of Walmart’s event at 7 p.m. EST. Surprising to no one, Amazon took one look at that and knew they had to beat Walmart to the punch.

Camelcamelcamel (an Amazon price tracker) confirms that these AirPods have never dropped below $124.99, which is a pretty sure-fire sign that this is the cheapest any pair of AirPods has ever been (at least at an official retailer). $99.99 is $29.01 off the regular sale price of $129 (also the Prime Day price) and $59.01 off the original price of $159. Waiting for Walmart to catch up at 7 p.m. EST will save you an extra $0.99.
Lacking the wireless charging case of the other second-generation AirPods and obviously the noise cancellation of the AirPods Pro, this is technically the most basic pair of AirPods. But that’s only compared to other AirPods. Compared to other truly-wireless earbuds, this baseline model continues to be a kick-ass companion.
They pair with Apple devices seamlessly and instantly, they pause when you give one a tap or take one out, and they charge quickly. Though the charging case can’t charge wirelessly, it still holds a ton of extra juice. For non-audiophiles who just need reliable music for the workday or a walk, AirPods make life easier. Period.
